As we have stated almost a year ago, US has failed to remove Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from office, yet. Until recently, Washington has been pushing to unseat Maduro by throwing its support to opposition leader Juan Guaido. Washington hoped that Guaido would inspire uprising that could overthrow the president. Until now, this strategy failed.

As anticipated, Maduro case is difficult. Washington hoped that military and populace would get behind Guadio. Especially, military has remained loyal to the government. Guadio has failed to keep the populace stem ongoing. Therefore, US has failed to remove Maduro from the office.

It shall be remembered US has been committed to end Venezuelan crisis. Millions of people left the country. It has been affecting the stability and security of the region. Moreover, not all the countries supported Washington plan. Russia, China and Turkey supported Venezuela. US has not been fond of seeing foreign states in its backyard.

Therefore; US has been compelled shifting its tactics. Special representative for Venezuela Elliot Abrams suggested that US and Venezuela were in transition talks. There are positive signs that they might be closer to resolution. Turkish state bank Ziraat Bank had stopped its operation in Venezuela, China’s National Petroleum Corporation halted oil purchase. Those developments pushed Venezuela to consider peace with opposition. Therefore, direct communication started on the right time.

It remains to be wonder if there would be governmental transition or not. We assume that US would propose immunity to Maduro from all crimes including some members of military. However, there is unique problem between US and Venezuela. US does not want Maduro to rerun presidency. However, Maduro wants. We believe Maduro uses this to bargain a better deal with US administration

Negotiations are now dealing with specific details of coming election. It seems President Trump finally makes a right call.
