Either you may like it or not but Taliban has a victory against the western countries in Afghanistan. That is a remark we have to keep in mind. It does not necessarily mean that everything will be easy from now on. On contrary, things will be difficult. While the jihadist groups have one enemy in Afghanistan, it will create obstacles for groups to operate after US defeat.

US withdrawal from Afghanistan reduces its ability to gather intelligence on terrorist threats coming from the country. From now on, US has to primarily rely on drone surveillance with its own capabilities while it has no human resource at site to identify the target with assurance. Thus, meaning it has to rely on other countries intelligence. In places like Afghanistan, telecommunication is nor preferred in terms of communication but face-to-face contact is more common.

Therefore any drone attack on terrorist without confirmation by ground assets might end with undesired casualties which might cause great problems to US. Working with third parties like other militia groups might compromise the operational security due to local mean reasons and might raise significant human rights concerns.

When it comes to Jihadist groups, it will be hard to unite them under a single threat after defeating US in Afghanistan. It is almost with certainty that Taliban will either recruit them under legit army formation or will utilize them else in world such as Somalia, Yemen, Sahel via its link with Al-Qaeda. It is known that al-Qaeda supports Taliban financially and recruiting. But ISIS is a different jihadist group. It is known as adversary and ideological competitor of both Taliban and al-Qaeda. ISIS is active in Iraq and Syria despite the fact that they are mostly ineffective. However, any manpower follow from Afghanistan will end up with ISIS which would greatly increase their strength. Especially if Taliban fails its emirate project, the new recruits flow will drive to ISIS.

Global powers have lost their influence in Afghanistan. It might give a safe haven for Jihadist groups to recruit and train the new militia prior deploying them. Taliban win will encourage supporters to increase their financial assist to jihadist groups. Meanwhile, Taliban will likely to ensure that its force will not dissolve but will gather under Afghanistan military and security force umbrella.

US has left a big problem while withdrawing. The war against terrorism was vital but not national security concern for US while China is a national concern. While US concentrates all efforts in Asia, it will lose its ability to stop terror activities in Middle East, Sahel and Horn of Africa mainly. It is inevitable for Taliban to increase its footholds in those areas in future while US is too busy to deal with China.
