It is still important for everyone to buy cheap products. For that it has to reach cheap raw material, should have the manpower to manufacture it and should have a very sophisticated logistic network to distribute. If you look at Turkey’s recent moves in Mediterranean region as well as technological development, it appears that Turkey wants to be a new cheap product manufacturer in the region. So let’s see how.

A nation emerges if it produces industrial products at low cost due to cheap labor and productive innovation. Most nations look up China, US and Japan then start thinking they cannot. But Turkey thinks it will.

China emerges as such nation after Mao passed away. It replaced japan as low-cost and hig volume manufacturer of exported goods. Japan following World War II, has followed the same path. US once was producing the half of the produced goods during early 1900s. They have common path.

First financial resources and the ability to reach raw material easy. Then it has to acquire resources to produce such vast production in specified areas. You have to reach cheap energy and by all means you have to protect it.

US, Japan and then China had achieved this. And Turkey starts emerging such a nation. It starts modernizing its navy to protect the routes. It has set embassies in all African nations in the continent. Its Foreign Direct Investment has gone from 300 m USD in 2000 but now it is around 6 billion USD in 2020. Turkey’s imperatives to expand in Africa is not only exposing its desire to sell the goods but to ensure the safety of its interests in those countries as well as accessing the cheap raw material and energy.

In order to achieve that Turkey will use its relatively cheap military industry to attract the African nations. In most cases, Turkey will be successful since Sahel regions nations have been growing anti-French sentiment while US military hardware is expensive and attached to many conditions.

Turkey can achieve such ambitions but still have the most fragile economic policy at home. Unless Turkey achieve an sustainable economic policy at home with strict regulations attached to its developments, all these achievements could be washed easily.
