Naturally, it will take time to repair all doings of Trump administration that somehow damages the US reputation in the world. The most easy ones are done within first days of Biden, return back to WHO, lifting the travel sanctions from some of Muslim countries, return to Paris Environment Agreement and cutting the funding program to support building the Mexican wall. These are good intensions and are easy to do. Moreover, it demonstrates the willingness of US coming back to table. However, building the trust and fixing the international problems require extended time.
However, US has to prioritize fixing the problems at home before it gets worse. These are vital to deal with if Biden administration should not be distracted from its foreign policy in the long run. Therefore, Biden administration should apply the foreign policies simultaneously at the same time with economic initiatives. Biden administration should apply policies which should be visible, provide clear and simultaneous benefits at home. Demonstrating competence requires an ability to do more than one big thing at once. Biden knows it and he intends to fulfill it.
Therefore, it should be expected that US administration would not only lean on domestic problems and leave the foreign policy on its way. On the contrary, President Biden knows that US has to help global economy by returning back to WHO, helping the poverty in UN and injecting resources to increase the global trades since he is aware that these are not necessary for world to recover from pandemic but also interrelated for US economy to recover. Shortly, these steps are interrelated with US national interests.
US will be successful to place itself as trusty and reliable partner in global arena. It has the resources and willingness to do so. Despite all doing of Trumps, the major global powers still believe in US and at this time, it is a good base to start with.
However, the most difficult steps will start some months later such as Iran nuclear deal, containing rising China and Russia aggression. Biden needs the economy to fix before he gets engaged with those problems. But why?
Because the new US policy will be based on strong economy and strong alliances. Without recovering the institutions and domestic problems at home, economy cannot start recovering domestically and globally. And without a strong economy, US cannot create strong alliances in Asia as well as other regions. Therefore, Biden base plan starts at home and continues on global arena.
