According to sources, Sudan’s army was able to reclaim agricultural land and take control of Ethiopian army camp. The al-Fasqa border has been disputed by both countries for decades.
The tension between two states has been increasing in recent days. The most recent talks were ended without an agreement in December 2020. In mid-January 2021, Sudan’s Foreign Ministry said Ethiopian war planes had entered Sudanese airspace in a serious violation that elevated existing tension.
Ethiopia’s ongoing conflict wit its northern Tigray region which also borders Sudan has resulted thousands of people feeling to Sudan. Moreover, Sudan and Ethiopia have political tension over the disputed Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project which will affect the water flow of Blue Nile in Sudan as well as Egypt.
Starvation is a major problem in Tigray. Health care in the region is alarming limited with just couple of Tigrays’ 11 hospitals are functioning. Communication are somehow limited. Neighboring Somali and Eritrea also might be sucked in the problem if Addis Ababa increase its efforts to solve the problems.
