After 65 years later, the visit was historical for both sites. However tension started arising from day 1.
President Erdogan said protecting the rights of ethnic Turks within Greece’s borders was a priority for Turkey and called for an improvement to the ethnic status of Turks living in the country. He added “How can we say Lausanne is in effect? Lausanne is not in effect. We need to prove Lausanne’s applicability by doing this,”
But Greek President said there is no need to discuss the Treaty of Lausanne and everything had been agreed in the past.
MOreover Turkey has demanded the soldiers fleeding to Greece after July 2016 coup attempt including the terrorist who were involved in bombings in Turkey, linked with DHKP-C terror group. Neither Greek President not Prime Minister were affirmative on this subject.
Turkey and Greece will work together on Syrian issues and other regional problems. However the visit once more displays the fact that there are great differences between both States.
Those difference would affect the solution on Cyprus and Aegean Sea problems.
