Since the beginning of October 2019, Iraq is unrest. The protests are widely spread in the country (other than Kurdish part and parts recently been saved from ISIS). The grievances arise due to corruption, unemployment, lack of public services such as electricity, hospital facilities, education. Despite the fact the protests are largely confined to Shia-majority areas, it still gives huge opportunities to Sunni countries to break its influence in Iraq.

There is a huge young population and most of them are unemployed. This causes great grievance among the population. There is genuinely no international or domestic politics behind these protests.

What is more surprising is how Iraqi government acts upon the protests. It was unusual degree of alarm, ruthlessness and determination. Moreover, the Popular Mobilization Forces special condition creates unrest among young people.
