A State Department official said the United States is suspending aid to the majority of Somalia's national army because of corruption concerns.

The suspension has been put into effect to guarantee that U.S. aid is used effectively and for its intended purpose. Elements of the Somali security forces fighting the terrorist group al-Shabaab will continue receiving assistance.

the Somali government consented to increase transparency and comply with American standards to guarantee other military units receive appropriate U.S. assistance.

Following the countries close relations with Turkey and Qatar, the suspension decision intends to undermine the bilateral relations between Somalia and Turkey.
