Germany said its continued support for Iraq and the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government was contingent on peaceful efforts by both sides to resolve their differences. 

The German government has provided more than 1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) in humanitarian, development and stabilization aid to Iraq since 2014, making it one of the biggest international donors.

Gabriel said Berlin would push the government in Baghdad to respond to offers of dialogue by the KRG. 

The turmoil in northern Iraq prompted German authorities to suspend a Bundeswehr mission to train Iraqi Kurds, which includes roughly 150 German service members.

German aid to Erbil is a great concern to Turkey for years. Although Germany claims that they are giving the aid in order to stabilize the region and support Iraq's unity, the provided aid is given to terrorist groups under YPG and PKK.
