President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited the Suakin Island on the west coast of the Red Sea as part of his official programme in Sudan.

Greeting the citizens waiting along the route with Turkish and Sudanese flags in their hands, President Erdoğan visited Al-Hanafi Mosque, Al-Shafei Mosque and an old customs building, which were restored by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), in the island.

Ottomans used the port city to secure the Hejaz province -- present-day western Saudi Arabia -- from attackers using the Red Sea front.

Turkey has set a military base in Qatar during 2017. The last move by Turkey would intesify the Turkish influence in Arab Penisula.
