By the deployment and the statement from Iraqi side, it is concluded that Iraq takes Turkish president Erdogan statement seriously. President Erdogan lately said " We can be in Sinjar all of a suddent".
Most of the countries thought that Iraq and Turkey had an understanding to conduct a joint military operation. But things do not appear to be the same in line with statements.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said that there is no agreement between Baghdad and Ankara on a joint operation against the PKK in Iraq. Al-Jaafari called on Turkey to withdraw troops from Bashiqa in the province of Ninawa.
Despite that the PKK is a real threat for Iraq as well, the statements of the country’s foreign minister against the backdrop of the forthcoming parliamentary election may be considered quite acceptable. It is obvious that this statement is aimed at the internal audience of Iraq before the parliamentary election scheduled for May 12.
However Turkey does not except the Iraqi political turmoil will be settled after the election. The Iraqi political balance rned into a Shiite-Sunni confrontation which barriers Iraq to take steps forward. Shiite side of the political power is under the influence of Iran and Sunni side of the political power is under the influence of Arabs. Thus, leaves Turkey no choice to alone launch a military operation in Sinjar before the parliamentary election in Iraq.
Therefore, Turkey has already begun establishing a greater military force in Iraq, with reports of Turkish soldiers parachuting into the village of Soran and reinforcing its presence in Sidakan. By this operation, Turkey intends to place troops on both sides of Kurdish-controlled Syria, which could set Turkey up for a two-sided offensive against the rest of the land held by the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia along Turkey’s southern border.
Turkey, having launched a military operation in the north of Iraq in the Sinjar area, plans to close the corridor between Syria and Iraq for terrorists.
It is possible that as part of the planned military operation in Iraq, the Turkish Armed Forces will clear of the terrorists an eastern Syrian city of Derik in the province of al-Malikiyah.
At the same time, one shouldn’t forget about Iran’s position regarding Iraq. If the Turkish Armed Forces start military operation in Iraq, this may also lead to aggravation of relations between Ankara and Tehran. But operation to Afrin already showed to international community that Ankara is ready to pay the price against US. Thus, leaves answer "What will Iran do once Turkey acts on Sinjar?".
