Russian state oil company, Rosneft, paid 1.3 billion advance for a production share deal to Arbil Administration. Baghdad opposed the deal saying "if there will be any deal, it shall be only with Baghdad". The deal covers the five production blocks in Iraqi Kurdistan region.
The deal likely will blur the developing relations between Iraq and Russia. Moreover, countries Iran and Turkey will be opposing the deal which will be a major hammer on the sanction imposed by those countries.
On the other hand side, the deal emphasizes the Russian intension to develop its influence in the region. However its influence is related with its financial capabilities and Russia will be forced to concentrate on the financial struggles within its homeland.
