The Kurdistan Regional Govenrment (KRG) has welcomed the conferees for approving the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and thanked the USA Congress for its continued support to Arbil and Peshmerga on 15/11/2017.
During 2017, Arbil had received 415 million USD for the Peshmerga. This has helped Arbil to pay the salaries for the Peshmerga at the height of the wat against ISIS in Northern Iraq.
KRG added that they are confirming their committment to work with US to a long-term partnership. It is clear for Arbil that US is a vital ally and partner despite the fact that US has not favored the "referndum" at the moment. KRG has affirmed that KRG would be its best to de-escalate the tension with Baghdad and ressolve the issues through "political dialoque".
In the wake of referendum, Iraqi army with the help of Iran took the control of disputed areas from KRG in the mid-October, resulting deadly clashes.
It is notable that US Seneator Marco Rubio, former Republican fronrunner was among those who met KRG including Brett Mc-Gurk, the special presidential ebvoy to the de-ISIS coalition.
This assistance would be watched closely by Turkey in the wake of Arbil referendum rejections. During the defence of Mosul, PKK/PYD had helped Peshmerga to defence against Bahgdad. in the wake of cooperation between Arbil and PKK/PYD, the fund would not be welcomed by Turkey.
