As French President Emmanuel Macron wrapped up his first official visit to China, there are signs that Beijing's relationship with Europe is shifting.
One message was about the huge possibilities cooperation between China and Europe could bring and his commitment to that effort. The other, a warning to not underestimate growing concern and frustration in Europe – and elsewhere – with what many regard as China’s unfair trade practices such as investment restrictions in many sectors that are not blocked in countries overseas.
During the visit, French companies Airbus, Areva and Fives entered into agreements with China's National Development and Reform Commission, China National Nuclear Corporation.
Once Brexit is under process and Germany has dometic political problems, Macron has found the right time and venue to represent himself as "leader of Europe". That was the upmost gain during his visit.
