Tiangong-1 is expected to re-enter Earth's atmosphere sometime between Sunday evening and early Monday, according to the European Space Agency. The latest forecast from the non-profit Aerospace Corp. pegged the space station crash at 8:30. But the time of the re-entry – along with the geographic area – is still highly volatile as Tiangong-1 continues its descent.
About a ton of the 8.5-ton Tiangong 1 is expected to survive re-entry, but scientists say the debris poses little risk to people on the ground. The station is expected to re-enter somewhere between 43 degrees north and 43 degrees south; that area includes most of the United States, China, Africa, Southern Europe, Australia and South America.
